Easter 2013

We had such a great day!

We went to my parents church (all of us!) and then headed over to my sister's house for lunch. It was yummy! The service was really nice, they have an amazing piano player who did a really touching piece. This was his last day at their church as he is coming to take a position at a local church in our town. What are the odds?!

We typically don't go to church on Easter, mainly because it's so over crowded. It was nice to go this morning as a family. We almost took up a whole row!

Gigi, Pops, Colbi, and Avery

Aunt Leslie and Colbi

Wonder where we get our blue eyes from?
Hey, I got an Easter egg!

The Easter bunny did a great job with some nice treats for the kids. Colbi got some puffs and yogurt melts in her eggs!

Let us not forget why we celebrate this day. As I listened to the sermon this morning and watched The Bible tonight, I'm reminded just how much Jesus went through for our spiritual welfare. I cried as I watched the crucifixion. All so we can be saved and forgiven even though we do not deserve it.

My prayer is that who ever watched this episode tonight, truly understands the pain he suffered. That God loves us all so much, he sent his son here to die so we can be saved and live with him forever in eternity. That's something to celebrate!

Eight Months Old

Eight months already?!!

Colbi,

You such a great baby. Very easy going, pretty happy, and are getting more and more fun by the day! You are wearing 6-9month clothes, size 2 diapers, eating every 3.5-4hrs, and sleeping pretty consistently through the night. You like to wake up and talk, sometimes cry because you need a little cuddle from Momma. You are usually asleep for the night about 7:30/7:45 and wake up about 7ish. You still take 2-3 naps depending on what's going on that day. We aren't super strict about your schedule, Mommy likes that.

You are rolling around everywhere still and like to put yourself on all fours and rock, so I don't think crawling is too far away.

You developmentally are right on track. The drop it game has become quite popular. You love toys that light up, pop up, or rattle. You're pretty smart, you study stuff for awhile before moving on to the next thing. That includes people. You aren't a super picky eater. You've had lots to eat and only thing you really don't like so far is peas. You can pick stuff up like a pro! Puffs & Cheerios are the best. Separation anxiety is kicking in I think, you definitely know when we enter or leave the room. And, you cried when we dropped you off in the nursery this past week. You've said "mama" and "dada" and lots of other sounds. You love to hear songs, especially your bible song CD. We love you so much Colbi and enjoy watching you grow!

Our little visitor

(These pictures are totally out of order, I'm not a fan of the mobile blogger. Just sayin')

We had a great weekend around here!
We had an extra visitor with us Friday night. Can you see her? She is in the cute pink boots!

Pops with both his girls.
Jenna and Jason celebrated their anniversary this weekend so Avery came to stay with us. I must say, I am not ready for another baby. And, Avery is a really easy kid. Hats off to you mother's of multiples. I got a little glimpse, it's challenging.

Avery and Colbi were so cute together though. We did our nightly bath together and sadly, no picture was taken. I was trying to be a good mother/aunt and not leave them alone in the tub to go grab my camera. Good call huh!

Avery and I stayed up and watched UP after Colbi went to sleep.
Avery LOVES her pink boots. After bath time and we got into our pj's and she wanted her "purse" and to put her boots on.
Chocolate pudding is yummy!
We had some playtime Saturday morning before Gigi and Pops came to get her. Avery is SO sweet to Colbi. She kisses her and hugs her. It's just the cutest thing.

Happy Anniversary Jenna and Jason!

Some good, easy reads

I came across three different reads today that I thought were worth sharing.

Growingleaders has an article written basically saying that my generation is now baby-ing our children to the point of a skinned knee or not making the basketball team is a life alternating event. And you know, THEY'RE RIGHT. It's kind of pathetic the way now days, we are afraid to hurt our kids' feelings or let them be upset. I see it all the time, and sometimes, I'm already that parent. Eek.

I remember (and my parents will laugh that I'm sharing this) in fifth grade I tried out for cheerleader. I didn't make it, but my twin sister did. I was devastated. I was embarrassed. I remember just running toward my dad and he scooped me up and took me outside while I cried and cried. Funny the memories we have. And then, my mom had the nerve to suggest that I do drill team instead. What! How can she even suggest that? I want to wallow in my self pity party! I ended up doing drill team that year and watched Leslie be a cheerleader on the field. Did I feel jealous? Yes. Was I mad that I (in my mind) I had to do drill team instead of be a star cheerleader? Yes. But, it did teach me something. It taught me, that life goes on. No matter what. And, I learned that disappointment was a part of life, ain't no getting around it. And, I should've learned that cheerleading got me no where in life and should have stuck with volleyball. I may not have had any student loans had I worked a little harder. Should-a, would-a, could-a.

I had a few other hard life lessons in my time, but that was one that always stood out for me. That and my well known, I-had-a-broken-arm-for-two-weeks-story I love to tell. But, according to this article, my parents did a good job at teaching me the art of survival. Bahahahaha.

This blog had a really good read for people with daughters.

I sometimes really struggle with how to raise Colbi. What I mean by that........she's only 8 months old, it's not like she is giving me huge problems at the moment. But, I think about the future. I think about the type of woman I want to raise and how to guide her in such a way that she understands the importance of being a woman who is strong, yet lets her guard down. Independent but learns that God set up the world for us to be loved and supported by a man. Kind, polite, mannerly, outgoing, loving, a leader.......I mean, just so many things!

I want Colbi above all, to know the Lord. I think having a relationship with God above all takes care of most of those issues I stated. Although, she learns what type of woman to model herself after from me. From her grandmothers. From her aunts. All of whom are all very classy, lovely, fun, independent women. But I'm who she sees everyday. She's sees my decision making, how I handle problems, how I treat others, and most of all, how I treat her dad and how he treats me. Read the article. It's good. And, it reminds me that raising a daughter is one of the most precious gifts I have ever been given.

A Letter to Young Mother's really hit home for me. I guess because I do have a kiddo who is only 8 months old. So many things she states in this post are true. Women judge other women. Don't pretend you don't. Even the most Christian, "holier-than-thou" judge other people but tell women they don't. Liars. And, that's the truth. We judge on all sorts of stuff. What each other wear, do we cook or eat out, how our house looks, how our children are dressed, did you breastfeed, bottle-feed, cry-it-out, rock to sleep, read everyday.....blah, blah, blah. It's EXHAUSTING. And, it's not even true. Who cares that this baby crawled before this one, or that my kid has still not gotten any teeth (not that I'm rushing it), or heaven forbid I don't choose to leave Colbi will just anyone at this point. That's my decision. And, it's not wrong or right, it's just me.

I think it explains several issues that seem to hang over the head of new moms. I'm keeping that one handy for that day I'm feeling like I've let Colbi down as a mom, or everyone else down because she isn't reading at a fifth grade level in the first grade. You get my point.

Anywho. I hope you find time to read all three. I found them to be extremely helpful. And, they're good for a little gut check.

Happy reading!

Cleaning and TV

Life lately.

I've been obsessed with mopping. Weird, huh?
I love the way it makes my house smell versus the Swiffer. I had a cleaning lady come a few weeks back and ever since then, I've switched back to mopping. For some reason, I feel like it cleans better.

Mr. Clean has some great scents!
P.S. Does it make me old now since I'm blogging about Mr. Clean?
I've taken on the Fly Lady's expertise when it comes to cleaning my house.
Do you ever feel like you spend a whole day just cleaning?
Fly Lady talks about and gives ideas on how to break up house chores so you aren't doing everything all in one day. It's been good so far. I don't actually follow her schedule, but you know, dust on Mondays, bathrooms Tuesdays, etc. Helps to not spend one of my days off just cleaning.

Besides cleaning the past few days, I've been watching:
I wasn't necessarily a fan from the get go, but the last one is definitely the best one. We rented it Saturday night and I've just been watching it over and over. What's wrong with me! Partly, it's been on in the background as I've been cleaning.
(Sidenote: I'm not a Kristin Stewart fan, but I do like her in this movie).

Another thing we have been watching is:

I know some Christians have debated about this series, but you know what? If this series gets people interested in the bible and into a church, then it's served it's purpose.
I know the majority of what the series has been covering. I mean, I know the stories, but not all the details involved. For example, why they invaded Jericho or that Abraham was called to sacrifice his son. I've really enjoyed it actually, and I'm interested to see how they explain Revelation. So scary. But, again, if it gets people interested...........Also, have you heard that certain people are saying Satan resembles our current President? Give. me. a. break.

And, last night, I spent the majority of the night crying over the Biggest Loser Finale!
She won by one pound!
It is just crazy to think about how weight some of these people have lost. I mean, for real. Danni looked incredible!

I can see how relationships may take a toll after one person goes through a transformation like this. You'd be a completely different person. And by the way, I posted on Facebook about how all I do is cry now at stuff like this. I can't watch anything to do with sick children, old people, animals, pretty much anything that is sad. Happy stuff makes me cry too.

Dang hormones!

First St. Patty's Day

We didn't do anything to celebrate St. Patty's Day. Except, put Colbi in her onesie. We're boring.

But isn't she cute?!

Awe, the Perkins chin. Sorry kid!

My Daddy is SUPER entertaining!
I had to share this video because it gives you a little glimpse into just how awesome she is!

We went to breakfast this morning with my parents, which was nice. We then came home and had a big day of cleaning and yard work. Dave has kind of been a little lazy about it (the yard work). What can I say, after kids, your priorities change. I don't do yard work (I know, I should start trying). We're working on getting better about it. AND, we get to replace our fence. BLAH! The joys of home ownership. Hopefully within the next month, that will be taken care of.

I'm off to make dinner and watch the Bible later on. Have you been watching it?!

Boots!

We had a busy weekend around these parts!

I'm really happy to share that Dave and I have made it to church two weeks in a row! That may not sound like a lot to anyone else, but that's big for us. We found a church that offers Saturday services, which is HUGE. And, Colbi went to the nursery. Double win. We are hoping to find a church home soon.

We went over to my parents yesterday to hang out for a bit. I can finally put some shoes on Colbi, although she is still wearing a size 2 and curls up her toes so it's a challenge.

It sure is fun to have a little girl who I can dress up!

Are those boots not the cutest things ever?
Miss Colbi has her first official ear infection. Honestly, I'm thankful she has gone this long without being too sick. I think she will start feeling better by tomorrow. And, she has pretty much caught on to the whole doctors office thing. Poor baby.

It's Spring Break around Texas, but no spring break for this family. I have a full week ahead and Dave (hopefully) will get his rear outside and fix our fence. Besides the fact that it needs to be re-stained, these dang Texas winds keep blowing part of our fence down. Grrrrrrrrrrr.

I hate being a home owner sometimes.

Couldn't help it!

I had to steal a picture..........sneaky Mama.
