Happy Memorial Day!

Well.....for my Memorial Day celebration I will be spending it at work. It's okay though, might as well make that money! Dave does have the day off today so at least he will have a little downtime to himself.

I didn't manage to get any pictures this past weekend. None! I. hate. that.

Friday I had a great time with Mom and Jenna. We drove, almost to Oklahoma, and started off the night with dinner and a little Cosmo action (hey! in spirit of SATC2) at the Cheesecake Factory. Yummy!!! I had the best adult beverage ever!!!! And after, we of course headed upstairs to stand in line for super great seats. The movie was SO AWESOME!!! Sarah Jessica had the best wardrobe of all four ladies.

Saturday morning Dave and I drove down to the lake to meet his parents, sister, and niece for a little sun/boat action. We love going down there and especially taking the dogs because they run themselves ragged and sleep for days!! We had a great time but I had to head back because I had to work last night.

I hope everyone is safe today while out on the roads and lake. This day and July 4th are always scary to me because some people are just not great decision makers and like to drink and drive. I also hope everyone remembers why we celebrate Memorial Day........

I have several ladies at work who's husbands and fathers serve in the military and I'm so thankful there are people who do. I'm thankful those men have women who love them and pray for them. I couldn't imagine being a military wife, so hard! But on this day, I have thankful to have men and women who serve our country so we can be free!!!!

Friday Five (a day early)

1. Is anyone else as excited as I am that Lee won American Idol??!! LOVE IT. Dave picked him to win from day one. Although, I must add my two cents about the actual finale show; how strange was it? There were so many awkward, uncomfortable moments throughout the show I had almost forgotten it was the season finale to announce the winner. Strange "Pants on the Floor" guy, Paula's incredibly awkward speech, and Janet Jackson's song was just plain.......weird.
2. Next week is the season finale of one of my favs! I look forward to my hour of craziness with these ladies every Thursday. This week was full of drama, gossip, and inappropriate conversations at inappropriate places like always but I still. love. it. I'm looking forward to seeing if Bethany and Jill make up (I think they do because I keep seeing red hair in the previews for Bethany's new show in certain scenes) but we'll have to watch the find out.
3. I'm totally stoked because Mom, Jenna, and I are going to see some of our favorite girls!! I'm trying to decide on what outfit I want to wear to the movie.....have to look cute for Mrs. Parker!

4. Seven days till we take our annual trip to Broken Bow!!! I'm in dire need of some quality alone time with Dave, some relaxation, and a little sun. I. can't. wait.

5. I have been majorly sleep deprived this week and I need to find some time this weekend to catch some zzzzzzz's. I have really never had issues falling asleep at night but for whatever reason when I lay down my mind races. To-do lists, bills that need to be paid, plans for the week....it's just crazy. I need to follow my Dad's advice and get some headphones to listen to the radio, that seems to help him. Any other suggestions?

Old friends, New Gym, and a Great Hamburger!!!!

We have had one busy weekend already. Friday night we met a few of my "old" friends out for dinner at one of our favorite Mexican food restaurants.

Lisa (far left) and her husband Dimi live about an hour away so it was a nice surprise when they showed up for a little quality time. Amber (middle) and her husband Drew are very rarely off at the same time and Mary (far right) is one of my oldest friends. I have been friends with Mary since preschool! We don't see each other too much anymore but when we do a good time is always to be had.

And this morning I got up and met my parents at their city's new, very technology savvy gym. It's called The Summit and you have to be at least 50 years old to be a member. I thought about signing up and just telling them I have had some really great plastic surgery. Think it would work? I'm totally jealous because this gym is more of a recreational center; it has a movie theater, pool/billiard hall, awesome pool, green house, and beautiful work out facility.

I had to come home shortly after though because a certain husband left his keys in my car therefore was stuck at home and missed his nephew's baseball game. Funny how him leaving his keys in my car turned out to be my fault.....how does that work?!

We are now enjoying a quite evening at home after stuffing my face with probably the best hamburger, ever. Dave and I went to this place and then grabbed a blizzard immediately after. Ahh, such a great afternoon. But, it's time for me to go. Our movie has started.........

Happy Saturday!

Show Us Your Life "Your Home Town"

We live in a small community in the midst of the big city life in a little old state named Texas. Our city is also the "Cement Capital" of Texas (which this actually worries me a bit......) but we didn't think much about it when we bought our house!

This pretty much explains the "picture" of what our small town represents. Now, I am in no way saying everyone who lives in our great city is a cowboy who rides horses but I will say there are many "country folk" who reside here.
The ride home does include many longhorns along the way with a ton of large trees
and country rodes.

One very cool thing our city does is the "Summer Balloon Classic" every June. Dave and I have yet to attend but are hoping to in the future! They have a day balloon lift and then at night there are balloons that glow!! And it's not super expensive so it's a great way to spend a Saturday.

This building is one of the oldest in the city and was built right downtown. We have a little "square" which is really just a street but this is where they hold all of the town events.

I LOVE that our town is still small and I'm hoping (with fingers crossed) it stays this way for quite some time. Only thing with small town life? Sometimes I have to be reminded that things move a little slower than the big cities, but I think that is a good thing. Don't you?

Friendly visit from a tornado

Who would have thought in the middle of getting my nails done a tornado would come visit right here in my home city!
It was pretty entertaining to be sitting at the nail station and have one of the girls come running in to tell us there was a tornado right outside! Everyone ran out to take a look (crazy I know). But at least it was my one something exciting for today, simply because it did absolutely no damage to anyone!!

Wife Lesson #4

Sometimes I think women forget just how much our husbands do for us.

I've had several conversations over the past few days with women I know about husbands, boyfriends and fiances and I found that the majority of the time women often turned it back to themselves and what "we" do. Whether it be housework, paying bills, working and how we as women are the ones who "hold the house together".

The past week and a half I have watched (or observed) my husband's work ethic. Work has been so hectic for him lately, many long days and too many hours at the office have consumed Dave's time causing him to not only be stressed out but has affected his attitude. Not by any means that his attitude is poor, just "down" I guess (for lack-of-a better term).

I have learned that my husband not only works because let's face it, we all have too, but because he wants to provide for his family. Dave always tells me how when he asked me to marry him he knew my parents were entrusting him to take care of me, he knew it was his turn in life to be the head of the household and provide a stable, loving home for his wife and children (one day people, not yet).

I have written about my philosophy and belief that as Dave's wife it is my responsibility to strive daily to build my husband up, speak highly of him to others, and to say thank you. Thank you for working daily to provide a home to come to after a long day, thank you for striving to be the best you can, and thank you for always showing me he will do whatever is necessary to take care of me.

Words are powerful. They, in some cases, make or break a marriage. I firmly believe that women are called to be supportive and submissive (to a point). I always thought I had to be a head-strong woman who could take care of herself without the help of a man, but I have learned over the past 16 months that I can be just that. But I am a better, more well-rounded, understanding woman with the help of my husband.

You would be amazed how different a marriage can be with those simple words "Thank you", "I appreciate you", and like I always say "I love you" (especially before you leave the house). Men need to hear those words just like we do.

I think learning this lesson early on in my marriage will make those "much tougher" times just a little easier. Or will it? :)

Day 2

This time Buddy got smart.
He kept trying to slip out of his collar. I guess even dogs will try to find an
excuse not to work out.

Birthday, Airhogs, and Dog Walking

We had a busy weekend!
Saturday I got a text message asking if we were coming to the
birthday party..........I immediately look at Dave. "Oh yeah, Pat told me about it last week" was his initial response (that is a whole other Wife Lesson). Anywho, Dave headed over to Pat and Traci's to help put this adorable little play house together because.........................

.............this cute little birthday girl was wanting to play in it!! Miss Gabi Wood turned 4 and she is the cutest, sweetest little girl. Her hair is gorgeous! She should be in a kiddie shampoo commercial, it's down to her waist.

After the party we went with Whitney and Cody to see the Airhogs play!! Have you been out there yet? The park is very nice and it's a great, inexpensive way to spend an evening outdoors!

#24 is my new favorite player.
Really, we were sitting in the outfield and he was the closest player that could hear me yell.
The four of us had a great time! It has been quite sometime since the four of us have hung out together. We wish Matt and Heather could have made it! Maybe next time.
Today was Buddy's first official day of "working out".
How do you think it went?

Poor Buddy was tired and I was practically dragging him by the end of our long walk (1 whole mile), I think my dog is out of shape..........

I'm hoping to start this whole work out routine. 21 days in my goal because you know what they say! 21 times makes a habit!!

Birthday Money=Successful Shopping Trip

Happy Birthday to me!! Thanks to my parents and in-laws!!

This is everything I got today while shopping!
I went to all of my favorite places. Charming Charlie, Old Navy, The Buckle, and American Eagle (although I didn't get anything from there). I made myself go out and spend my birthday money. I am horrible at saving birthday money and spending it on "not fun" stuff (aka bills), but not this time!!
I found this necklace and ear ring set for $12!! And the bronzed/orange tri-earring set I got for a $1, woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!
And I absolutely adore this sandals.
I needed some dressy (but casual) sandals and I got these for only $19!! They looked super stylish and cute on my newly pedicured feet too!

I just wanted to share with the families what my birthday money towards since sometimes you never really know.

Now, I'm off to fix some dinner. Poor Dave woke up at 4:30 this morning because work is crazy and he had to be there by 6am. Although, Dave was not the only person who had to wake up early. I ended up setting three alarms on my phone to make sure he got up on time so I'm a tired girl too! But I will be staying up to watch The Real Housewives of New York because let's face it, I'm obsessed with that show. Don't judge me.

Movie Review

Tuesday nights are one of my favorite days! Redbox (which I absolutely love) always sends emails out with the new releases and since I was sneaky and got the day off yesterday I went to rent two that I have been dying to see.

Do you love Chicago? Then you will love Nine. Story line is a little "different" and it takes a few to get into the movie but the dancing, singing, and beautiful people in this movie make for a great 2 hours. I watched this during the day while Dave was at work because Lord knows he will not watch any musicals with me. When we first started dating the movie RENT had just come out on video and he thought he'd be sweet and get it for me. About fifteen minutes in, he told me that was the last movie he would watch with me that had singing and dancing. And you know what? He meant it. :)I thought this movie was really good. It made me sad though. You will have to watch it since I will not be spoiling the ending for you but the lesson in this movie? The older you get the more you realize money, jobs, status, etc. does not compared to the quality of life and happiness relationships can provide. Plus, George Clooney is in it and let's be honest......he is pretty good looking.

Did anyone watch American Idol last night? I must say I thought Casey and Lee both did a great job. I really hope one of them wins. I'm actually glad I work tonight so I won't be watching the results show. It just makes me too nervous!

Not Me! Mondays

It was not me and my husband who were going to attend the movie night at our city park and left immediately after we parked. We, both of us equally, would never let the number of children in attendance intimidate us and cause us to depart from the event. Who let's children dictate what sort of activities they partake in? Not us.

Yours truly let her husband make dinner one night this week and it was not me who had tuna casserole with Stouffer's french bread pizza. I would never, ever eat something like that for dinner because both are equally bad choices (especially together).

And it certainly was not me who went to two different Starbucks Saturday morning trying to get some of the delicious new birthday cake donuts. Both locations were out, can you believe that?! Oh, they so wonderful! You. Must. Try. Them. I had to settle for a simple latte instead.

Happy Mother's Day Mom!!

I am so thankful to have a Mom like you.

Thank you for your words of wisdom, shopping trips, listening to me when I need it, working hard, being an example, loving the Lord, and being such an amazing woman with such a giving heart.

I love you Mom! You're the best!!!!!

28th Birthday Celebration

28!! Geez, I can't believe it. I know, those of you who are reading this saying "You're still a baby!" but to me it's only 2 years away from 30. Years are just flying by! And I can definitely tell I'm getting older, last night we were home by midnight. HA!
We went to this place to eat and it super delicious! We ate way to much and then had cake from our favorite bakery (which thank you Dad for traveling over to the Red Oven and getting my favorite red velvet cake)!
We had a mini photo shoot during and after dinner. So, I apologize for the picture overload but I love to document life through pictures!

Have I mentioned that Jenna and Jason are expecting? Yep, that's right. Should have a little holiday baby this year.
My sweet parents. I love them. And everyone, all eight of us, made it out to have dinner which is the first time since Jenna's wedding. It was very nice for us all to get together.

Ever watched guys try to take a picture? It's so awkward since they never want to touch or be too close together. It's funny. But all of this men are so important to each of us in their own way.

After dinner we went to the Oasis (where Dave and I had our rehearsal dinner) and they had who else, Elvis! It was a hoot. The crowd was, ummmm older, and man were those ladies having fun.

We were on the deck and couldn't stop laughing. Bottom line, a conga line with many older women stomping around is a bad idea. Very entertaining!

It was a wonderful birthday. Good times with family and the best news? We have left over cake so I will be having another piece today. Tee hee.

Also! Guess what? This is my 250 post!! Isn't that cool?

Friday Five

1. Today is my birthday. It has been quite a day, needless to say I'm very much looking forward to tonight with my family for dinner. Ahhhhhhhh.

2. Mother's Day is Sunday and I have the cutest gifts for my mom and mother-in-law (padding myself on the back right now). I can't wait to give them their gift. Also, I will be working that night so if you have tons of patience (because the wait will be super long) and are looking for a great steak come visit us! I mean, who doesn't want to wait an hour or so to eat dinner?

3. Why is it that I consistently end up behind the slowest people on the road? Sometimes I feel like the universe is against me, seriously. All day today has been nothing but silly traffic and red stop lights. I kept telling myself to breathe.

4. We still need to get two tires for my car. Ugh. I hate, I mean highly detest purchasing anything that has to do with my car, maintenance things on the house, paying for tickets, etc. Just hate it but that's a part of being an adult right? And I'm pretty sure 28 qualifies me as an adult. Poopie.

5. This post has been kind of lame and depressing as I look back so I'll leave you with something positive. Guess what my present was from Dave? Give up? I am the proud owner of an I-Phone. Yes, I caved and told Dave I wanted to give up my broken, buttons don't work, can't hear what anyone is saying blackberry for an upgraded, technology savvy phone. SO excited!!!

Happy 4th Birthday Brenna Lee!

It's hard to believe you were once this little. You had the cutest little legs I have ever seen.

As the years have passed, I have watched you grow up from a precious little baby into a sweet, beautiful little girl.

You have the most beautiful brown eyes around, your sassy attitude is just divine (at the moment), and you are such a joy to be around.

You are just growing up right before our eyes. Uncle Dave and I love you so much! Happy Birthday Brenna Lee!!

**don't worry, we will be bringing your present over soon. Uncle Dave will make sure to get something super annoying that you'll love but your Mommy and Daddy will highly dislike**
